According to the article at the Wall Street Journal (link below), the federal officials are currently investigating whether the Northwest Airlines flight dozed off or were simply distracted Wednesday night when they suddenly fell out of contact with the air traffic controllers.
One factor that are long been considered is pilot fatigue.
