For those involved in technology it will surely come as good news that despite a struggling economy, Florida remains one of the top exporters of technological goods. In fact for the second year running (and during some of the most difficult economic periods) the sunshine state's technological exports have grown by $1 billion!
Last year Florida exported more than $14 billion worth of technology items such as computers and peripheral equipment to overseas locations, showing a 9% increase on the previous year. South American countries remain the main recipients of these goods with Brazil, Venezuela and Paraguay spending nearly $5 billion between them.
Todd Rader, CEO of Florida based firm Avancent Consulting, has said that tech products have been somewhat of a blessing to Florida's economy in this otherwise very difficult period. With the real estate market collapsing, and the auto-industry experiencing many closures and challenges, the continued demand for tecnology products has kept Florida afloat.
It is said that over 1.16 million jobs in the US are created or supported by the demand for high-tech products and TechAmerica, a technology trade association, has said that this industry accounts for 92,000 jobs in Florida alone.
