It was announced yesterday that Frontier Airlines Holdings Inc will close its phone reservation center in Las Cruces by the end of the year. With 150 positions currently held at the location this will prove yet another blow for joblessness in New Mexico.
It is not yet certain what percentage of the employees will be offered relocation positions in Denver or elsewhere, but it is highly unlikely that all employees can be rehired.
Frontier Airlines have made this move in order to improve their operations ahead of their emergence from chapter 11 bankruptcy protection when they will become a subsidiary to Republic Airways Holdings.
Republic and Frontier are negotiating the number of job positions that will be lost or relocated as part of their consolidation and employees from locations in Denver, Indianapolis and Milwaukee will be competing for much sought after jobs.
